I like flowers.  They are pretty, they smell nice, they add colour.  But I cannot eat (most) flowers, therefore I know nothing about them.  I’m pretty sure I have a black thumb when it comes to flowers. For the most part flowers were left to my dad, the professional landscapers on the college campus and the horticulturists at Scenic Nurseries in Raymond that one time I got a hanging plant.

We bought our house as a foreclosure. The house had been vacant for over a year when we moved in last September. We knew nothing about the garden. Therefore as Spring arrived and some delicate leaves of green started emerging from the soil out front, I hovered nervously wondering what would come out. Was it a flower, a weed, an alien life form? Would I need to take care of it? Because if that was a yes, the poor plant was doomed to die.

Instead we got some beautiful daffodils. No maintenance, easy peasy daffodils. Absolutely worth “effort” for the photography fun.

And then they wilted and dried up and I think I liked taking pictures of them even more.

Maybe I’ll plant more varieties next year so I can get more varied dead daffodil pictures… is that morbid?
