So all the seeds that I’ve sown indoors this Spring have sprouted except for the Watermelons. Researching a little on the internet I found that I may not be keeping the seedlings warm enough for the watermelon’s liking. We are currently using a room above the garage that we heat minimally. I’ve been keeping the room at at least 50 degrees F in order to keep the Tomatoes and Peppers happy. But apparently the watermelon needs 70s in order to sprout. I guess I’ll wait till I can take over the heating pads from the Tomatoes and Eggplants.

Why can’t I bring the Watermelons into the main house? It has to do with a certain gray kitty. It seems Audrey has decided that the seedlings are eggs and she’s a chicken and that she needs to cover them in order to help them grow.

In the meantime we have California Wonder Peppers, two kinds of Eggplant, A mix of Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, a mix of heirloom Tomatoes and Merigolds all started for the garden.

It’s amazing to see physically how many seeds I ordered from Fedco. Especially considering how many of them are beans and peas. Spent part of Saturday planting the seeds for watermelon, eggplant, broccoli, brussel sprouts and tomatoes. I’m so excited to see how these heirloom plants do this summer.

The stuff I’ve already planted has pretty much taken over our dining table. We usually eat on the couch or at our desks anyways.

My coworker who is kinda acting as my mentor in this whole organic gardening quest recommended that I keep a journal/log of my garden so I know what to expect next year. And I can analyze my failures and successes for next year (I’m an engineer). So I give you my garden journal.

Our basement windows sills are severely rotted. Luckily they are on cinder blocks so they aren’t damaging wood underneath but before replacing the sills we had to fix the problem. So Adam spent a good part of our weekend installing window wells for both basement windows near the ground.

We are also going to have to repaint the deck (all 750+ square feet of it!) so we have to strip the old paint before we can put on the new. Adam decided that pressure washing the deck would be a good start. And it did help a fair bit.

It’s Spring! But we had some snow flurries in New Hampshire today. Nothing that stuck but it was cold and gray for a while.

Started working on the garden by planting starters of tomatoes and peppers indoors. Audrey was excited about being outside and liked checking out the supplies. We are trying to have an organic garden too.
